| - so it goes like this, I fly to NYC for the first time, excited to finally visit the art capital of the world, and yet apprehensive about what Iíve heard about the abusive natives, the in your face pace of everyday reality, and I get lost in the airport and canít find my way out of Laguardia. Finally I bus to grand central and decide to go to the belly of the beast immediately. I decide to ride the subway. I buy my token, get my ride downtown and come up at Broadway and Canal. It is 12:15, lunch hour and my worst fears are realized. The sidewalk is completely filled with vendors, and a million people are jammed into the remaining space, pushing me off the sidewalk with my bags, into the street. I venture off of Broadway, onto one of the side streets, to collect myself. I walk into a bar, and when the bartender asks me what I want, I order a beer and suddenly realize how disoriented I am.
